Raw foods contain all the natural ingredients, nutrients, and important components of foods which are otherwise wasted or decreased during preparations. In most cases, these are very healthy nutrients that are so beneficial that they are oftentimes sold as pills and supplements. It is, therefore, a no-brainer that maintaining this kind of diet presents more than prospects of health but weight loss benefits as well.
Recently, this long-established knowledge was turned into a now popular weight loss plan: the raw diet.
Raw diet or raw food diet is a system of dieting that is based only on uncooked and unprocessed foods which are mostly sourced from plants. Thus, the typical foods included in this diet are nuts and seeds, fresh vegetables and fruits, grains, sprouts, beans, seaweeds, and beans. (Carrots, anyone?) Because all these foods are natural and unspoiled by heat, refrigeration, and other processes, these contain nutrients in their purest forms.
Further, since there is very little or no fat, grease, oil, sodium, MSG, and other materials used to flavor this raw diet, there will be a rapid decrease in weight. And because only raw foods are allowed, calorie- and cholesterol-overloaded foods are instantly slashed out from the menu, making the person practicing it a lot less susceptible to oversupply of calories. This fact was clearly evidenced by the appearance on CNN of one woman who lost over half of her original weight after adopting the raw diet.
There is only one setback to this kind of dieting, though. Since meats, fish, and large groups of foods are not consumable when raw, the selections of foods are very limited, not to mention tasteless. Practitioners can opt to cook 25% of the food to ready them for easier digestion. As a rule, cooking temperature must not go over 116 degrees Fahrenheit; otherwise, the enzymes and other nutrients that easily depreciate against heat will be lost or diminished in value.
